Heart Tattoos

The heart symbol has many associations with various cultures.  One of the most popular is the symbolization of love as depicted on many a valentine greeting.  The heart tattoo alone or in combination is one of the most frequently used symbol in tattoo art.  It is very personal for many wearers who have a special or personal interpretation of their particular heart tattoo.

It is referred to as the seat of intelligence and emotions in both ancient Egypt as well as China.  The heart tattoo when pierced with an arrow attributes to cupid.  St Theresa of Avila was said to have had visions of an angel piercing her heart with a flaming arrow.

One frequent display of a heart tattoo includes a banner across or underneath it, usually with a name of someone near and dear.  Other displays of this tattoo are in combination with a cross, pierced with a dagger, with flames or spit in half.
