There are two main groups of tattoo ink available for tattoos.  One group has the same base with different pigments.  The second group has different bases which in turn produces bolder colors.  Inks can be water or alcohol based.  There are reliable companies that have been producing inks for years that will supply high quality ink.

Many companies are producing hypo-allergic tattoo ink for those with certain types of allergies, with the exception of red ink.  If you plan to use hypo –allergic ink  you need to find a tattoo that does not require red.  There are inks available that do not contain animal products appealing to animal rights activists.  Check with your tattoo artist as to what kind of ink they use.
